So Human Giant is one of the funniest shows I've seen in a while. It airs on MTV2 (I think) Thursdays at 9:30. Some of its sketches were hit or miss, but for the most part they all made me laugh pretty hard.
While I was downloading Human Giant episodes to watch, I decided to try out Jericho, a TV series I'd been curious about but had never actually watched. In my eyes, it's essentially a televised version of Pat Frank's Alas, Babylon. Both creations feature a small town struggling to survive following the effects of what the viewer or reader presumes to be a nuclear war. Alas, Babylon was amazing when I first read it. It was everything I imagined a work of post-apocalyptic fiction would be. Dark, dreary, hopeless but not too hopeless, etc. Jericho, on the other hand, was almost too lame to watch because of the fucking music. Music for everything. When music is overused in such a way as to inform the viewer how to feel, you know you're in for a shitty show. They even had one of those moments in the first episode where you're half expecting one character to say to the zany, intended to be humorous character, "Oh, you! You rascal! *GUFFAW*" It even had the wacky, funny country riffs playing in the background, like something you'd see out of Walker when he slips on a banana peel and roundhouse kicks Trivette in the face. I don't want to see zany in post-apocalyptic drama. Why? Because the fucking nuclear explosions in the distance aren't very, a-huck a-huck, zany.
Anyway, rant over.

Crunch - Randall's Car |
] |
Some dousche in a Ford pick-up rear-ended us at the intersection of Classen and Boyd in the northbound lane, right across from the Mont. We were at the stop light across from the Mont when this spermbag plowed right into the back of Randall's car. Shocked, dazed, and a little less erect, we sat there for several seconds unsure of what to do. Before we could do anything, however, the fucker backs up and drives through the intersection. With the rage of a thousand wolverines coursing through our veins, we chased after him to the applause and encouragement of the customers sitting in the Mont's patio.
A thrilling, Bullit/French Connection/Ronin style car chase ensued with this fucker actually using his blinker as he led us through the seedy streets of Norman's Boyd and Main street neighborhoods at the speed of a sleepy newborn riding a Big Wheel. After watching him blazenly run a stop sign as we read his license plate number, I texted said number to Randall's phone and we called off the chase, as we we didn't want the guy to get hurt when we unleashed our whiplash fueled anger disco on his quite possibly drunk ass...but really we just didn't want to get shot in the face. Hard.
So please, if you see him, give him a gentle love tap. Or punch. Just know that if you see a navy blue or black Ford F2Faggot (know that I use the word only in regards to those who would use the word in seriousness..i.e. homophobes) that trouble's a coming in the form of a hit and run reach-around.
Friends don't let friends fuck other people in the bumper with a truck.
Fortunately, Randall's car was completely untouched. Amazing, because it feels like an eight year old punched me in the base of my skull for thirty seconds. Unfortunately, a report can't be filed because there was no damage, and a report can only be filed when there is more than $500 worth of damage. So, whoever hit us is probably sitting at home doing whatever it is they do after they pull off a successful hit and run.

| Night Trap is amazing |
[01 May 2007|11:22am] |
ly bad, but in a good way. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to play this when I had my Sega CD. I was stuck with the even more abysmal launch title Sewer Shark, which has you shooting rats and bats in, yes, the sewer. Except it's THE FUTURE so you get to fly around instead of walk. One of my fondest memories from that game is watching some fat, recognizable character actor shove spaghetti into his mouth during one of the newfangled FMVs that appear to have been shot on someone's cell phone camera from THE FUTURE.
But yeah, Night Trap is hilarious. I downloaded the Sega CD emulator and this ROM last night after tackling Aliens and Sunset Riders on the MAME emulator. Featuring Dana Plato, before her untimely demise, you try and trap these baddies dressed in black as they wander through this house during a girls' slumber party. The house is bugged with eight cameras, and you switch from one to the other and press a button at the right moment to capture them in really lame, ridiculous ways. I don't know what the fuck the plot is because I'm so fucking busy trying to keep the black baddies out of the house, who shuffle around the hallways as if they're mentally retarded.
Playing through these old games made me think, "Did anyone ever beat the fucking games?" Maybe it was just my short attention span for games at the time, or my finding reading much more interesting when I was a kid, but I never remember finishing a game. Take the TMNT NES game. I recall getting past the underwater electric seaweed section relatively few times, and after that I remember loitering in that fucking van until I died because I didn't know where to go or what to do. Games are so much easier now.
Since Night Trap has been such a success, I think I'll go ahead and download the various other shitty FMV titles that graced the Sega CD while it still had absolutely nothing going for it. All kidding aside, I do remember having fun playing Jurassic Park when I was little. And to this day, I still cherish the gaming experience I had with Snatcher, one of my favorite games EVER. We'll see if that withstands the test of time as well as Night Trap. I could also try the Penn and Teller game in which you have to drive a bus from Tuscon to Las Vegas (I think) for literally eight hours. Eight fucking hours. And then you have to go back!
Totally worth it.

After playing the TMNT arcade game on Live Arcade for the past week and a half, I got the itch to play the other coin-op classics I remembered. The first one that came to mind was, you guessed it, The Simpsons. I downloaded it last night and beat it this morning. These games are soooo much fun. Next I'll try and download X-Men.
I hope they'll be ported to the 360 through Live Arcade eventually. They may cost about $5 each but I really enjoy playing them with other people, which is difficult to do on a laptop keyboard.
When I was playing TMNT Arcade on Live, someone in my game at the time asked me what the turtles' names were. Another person told me something like, "Yeah, did you know they're named after old artists or some shit?"

Loved him on Dog Bites Man and Wonder Showzen and it turns out his stand-up routines are funny as well!

Gabe, you should check this link out. On an Ain't It Cool News talkback people started posting the worst experiences they've had in a theater. I was reminded of the story ou posted, where you changed seats because of some guy saying "White and Nerdy" out loud or something.

Support Our Troops OH! (Black Angels OH!) - Xiu Xiu |

"Did you know you were going to shoot off the top of a four year old girl's head And look across her car-seat down into her skull And see into her throat and did you know that her dad would say to you, 'Please sir, can I take her body home?' Oh wait, you totally did know... that that would happen Cuz you're a jock who was too stupid and too greedy And too unmotivated to do anything else but still be The biggest and still do what other people tell you to do You did it to still be a winner You shot your grenade launcher into peoples windows and Into the doors of peoples houses why should I care if you get killed?"

Xiu Xiu was fantastic..parts of the set list off the top of my head:
Sad Pony Guerrilla Girl Crank Heart Sad Redux-O-Grapher Yellow Raspberry Boy Soprano I Broke Up The Fox and the Rabbit Bishop, CA Fabulous Muscles
I'm sure I'm missing a few, but that's what I remember right now. Man, I feel like my last few posts have just been music related..guess they have. Saw Pelican, These Arms Are Snakes and Russian Circles two weekends ago. Caught the tail end of Russian Circles but I managed to see both Pelican's and These Arms Are Snakes' full sets. Pelican was...overwhelming, but in a good way. I was standing in the very front so I could hear stuff from their monitors kind of, in addition to the amps on either side and their own amps on stage, so all in all it was a huge fucking wall of sound. They played my favorite song "Drought" from their first album. I got all sticky down there.
Been exploring the Fourth Way bit by bit.
Everyone should read this comic DMZ. I'm hooked..not only on this, but all of this writer, Brian Wood's, stuff. I've kind of been on a comic kick lately..
I sent my 360 in at the beginning of the week to get repaired. I waited long enough..but I'm super excited to get it back so I can play some TMNT Arcade, however underwhelming the experience will probably turn out to be. I also plan to play a pile of games that have been sitting wrapped and on my desk since Christmas. Can't believe I've waited that fucking long to repair it. Ah well.
Oh, and found some more original vinyl classics in really good condition:

I'm pretty excited about spring break.
First I'll be going to Tulsa with Marisa to see her family for a few days.
Then we'll be traveling back Sunday so we'll be able to go see Pelican, Russian Circles, and These Arms Are Snakes that night.
On Monday we'll be going home to Corpus to stay there for about a week.
Charles and I are going to record some music in the guestrooom..so hopefully my drum daydreaming and idle tapping will be adequate preparation for laying down a few tracks. It's funny..I've had those drums for nearly a year now, but because they're at home I've only played them for a combined total of maybe a month and a half. Thankfully, once you get the hang of that hardcore 1-2-1-2 beat, it's not too difficult to pick it back up.

Saw Of Montreal play at the Union tonight. The band that opened for them, a Japanese outfit called Elekibass, put on a really good show.
Of Montreal started playing their set, starting with the first song from their new album. The power went out twice during this time, annoying the drummer so much he threw his drumsticks across the stage. Kevin, the lead singer, looked pretty exasperated as well. So, they ended up playing an acoustic show with drums, bass, keyboards, and other assorted instruments like tambourines, cowbells, etc. It was amazing how quickly they were able to recover, and how well they were able to do so. Their show ended with an a capella version of "Tim I Wish You Were Born a Girl" sung by the entire audience.
Oh, and the cops came between performances because some cuntbag tried fighting a security officer. They never found him, but his dewd-bro friends behind me were giggling about the whole incident. Cum guzzlers.
Lately I've been thinking about what I want to do following graduation. Here's a brief list of things I've been considering/daydreaming about:
- leave country, do something
- teach English somewhere, anywhere
- pursue some sort of popular music studies track for graduate and post-graduate work
- consider compiling history of global hardcore punk; could tie in with last daydream
- return home later in life and turn my dad's Dos Patos property and turn it into something else, or something similar to what it used to be.. In the 60s and 70s my dad sold Italian bicycles, esoteric literature, and artwork at this gallery he owned. Now it's storage for my uncle primarily. Perhaps turn it into a record store, venue, bookstore, or all of the above.
